Today started last night when I couldn't sleep because the neighbor's decided to MOVE in at 9:30 at night...I guess they thought no one would be trying to sleep that early...Howdy was ticked off...as for me...I wasn't asleep I was just resting my eyes. I finally fell asleep, only to wake up to my blasted alarm at 5...guess what I did?!? I hit the snooze, woke up took the dog out and sloshed around in Pip's Backyard Lake, hit snooze, and finally got up. Today was UIL!!! I couldn't sleep in, I was super pumped and ready to drive the bus in the freezing cold with 50 students yelling and screaming, what a great way to spend a Monday.
I went to pick up the bus and my worst nightmare had come true...I got bus 108B...the bus from hades. I always get it when it's bad weather or super cold...it has no heater or a/c...not like the a/c was needed today, but the heater sure was. The breaks are almost non-existant and you have to push them all the way down in order to stop, BUT you can't do it all in one motion or you jerk the bus around like a first time driver who is break happy. I almost gave myself whiplash just getting out of the bus barn. The next obsticle was to figure out how to get on the access road without falling off the 5 foot dropoff due to road construction. As I sat at the stop sign because I was afraid to proceed, another bus driver who was in a short bus was waiting for me to pull out, even though I motioned for her to go because I didn't want any witnesses in the upcoming disaster...she didn't budge. It was my turn...I pulled out slowly, afraid to touch the breaks, turned the wheel at just the right time to keep my wheel from carining over the edge, and that's when it happened...I jumped the curb. Usually I would be embarrassed by this, but today I considered it a success...the only thing with today's curbage is the whole back end shook and made a loud noise because bus 108B is not just a regular bus...it's a handicapped bus with a wheelchair lift. I was rockin' the handicapped bus, with no heat, crappy breaks, and 50 plus peeps. Go me! Go me!
UIL was in China Spring and once we got there we toured the parking lot of almost every campus, minus the intermediate and high school. I wanted to let our students know what other districts look like. We finally made it to the right school and just in time, the windows were fogged up so bad I couldn't see anything...well I could see out the front, but not the sides, so when we turned it was based on luck. I'm good like that. As soon as I walked into the gym with all the children, I knew I had made a mistake. It was too late to turn and run, so I sucked it up and started making my way to the section where our students had made home and then I saw a most welcomed sight...Lisa Kay Key...I had a partner in crime/boredom for the day...it was just like old times, we gossiped like we hadn't see each other in forever or since last Wednesday...a lot can happen in less than a week. I guess China Spring was trying to save on budget because it was FREEZING every where...I stayed in my coat and scarf all day...I looked good...too bad there weren't any single men there...my age..I'm not a creeper!!! After a fun filled day of freezing and listening to screaming kids, it was time to head home...this time I decided to head straight home and not take the campus tour.
You'd think the day would be over, BUT you're WRONG. I still had basketball games to sit through. Today wasn't too bad though...we didn't cheer at the last game because we had signs to make for the parade we're in tomorrow...gotta love last minute work...just like me updating my blog instead of writing my sub plans for tomorrow....one of my girls starting guessing my age...it's a game they like to play, even though they know how old I am, but don't remember...kinda scary...then I taught them the Burger King...I work at Burger King, making flame broiled whoppers...song....the evening was a success...Ding Fries are DONE!!!
